3 Secrets To A Creative Wedding Cake For A Stylish Wedding
When I was introduced to Derek Corsino, owner of Corsino Cakes based out of Red Hook, New York, I was immediately impressed by what he does so very well:
CAKES. Amazing, unique, crazy, personal cakes for every style and taste imaginable.
I’m telling you, these cakes aren’t just dessert…they are works of art.
If you drool over pictures of amazing wedding cakes online and in bridal magazines (like I do) it is pretty obvious that the right cake can really make a statement about your personality, becoming one of the most impressive, unique details of your wedding.
So how do you pick a cake that really represents you?
Derek offers a clue to the clueless so that you can choose a cake that will wow your guests and show off your uniqueness.
1. The Groom’s Cake. Why limit yourself to just one amazing cake? Imagine how impressive it can be to have cakes of varying designs and flavors, all highlighting and coordinating with the colors and theme of your wedding. The groom’s cake is often a surprise for the groom from his new bride.

A groom’s cake opens up a whole new world of cakey fun and creativity. No flowers and lacey piping for him. It's a totally cool, fun way to showcase his hobbies and
interests as an edible work of art. Does he have a favorite sport’s team? Is he obsessed with classic cars, beer, Star Wars, video games?
Have your baker design a fabulous, fun cake dedicated to your groom. The groom’s cake gives you permission to get wild and crazy. The more unique, the better, from Derek’s point of view…and you can see the awesome results in these photos.
2. Gather some ideas before choosing the Main Event cake. Clip out some photos of cakes you admire or your wedding flowers and colors to use as inspiration.
These days you don’t have to stick with the traditional white cake any more than you have to wear a totally white wedding dress. Integrate your wedding colors with a bold splash of color or intricate designs to match your monogram, menu or programs.
With the right baker, the sky is the limit.
3. Consider the taste. Your wedding cake should be as delicious as it is beautiful, so have a tasting.
Are you a chocoholic? I see plenty of rich, dark chocolate wedding cakes these days that look stunning against pale frosting. This is yet another excuse...er, reason...to have more than one cake; you get the pleasure of sampling multiple decadent flavors.
One of our couples had not one, not two, but THREE amazing wedding cakes. They were the talk of the wedding!
Take a step away from the typical, dry, plain *yawn* wedding cake. Seize your choice of wedding cake as an opportunity to get personal, creative and most of all, have fun with your wedding.
And if you need help with inspiration, check out these Corsino Cakes creations for some ideas. I’ve already dreamed up a fantasy groom’s cake for Jeff: a 1957 Fender Stratocaster in sunburst, his dream guitar.
Maybe for our 10th wedding anniversary…
