How to Plan the Perfect Honeymoon…#8 Destination Greek Isles
Greece is one of the most romantic countries in the world. From the ancient to the modern, Greece conjures images of the white cliff villages, quiet beach coves, and archeological sites. Many honeymooners opt to visit these islands for an idyllic culmination to their wedding. But you must make a decision before you go. You see, Greece has over 3000 islands, but only 170 are inhabited.
You may opt to visit one, two or three of the Greek islands and stay in one of the phenomenal resorts available. Unless you are planning an extended stay, visiting more than two islands really is not conducive to a relaxing vacation. A cruise to Greece usually stops at several ports and includes Turkey--so you have the opportunity to visit many wonderful places and marvel at several legends in just a few days! These stops are usually found on Eastern Mediterranean cruise itineraries.
The traditional villages of the isles, built on tall cliffs, offer breathtaking views. Santorini represents the beautiful Greek cliché you may have dreamed about! Most amazing about this island is this: it is actually the rim of the Santorini volcano. Its harbor is the result of sea water filling in the crater. Santorini is less known for its beaches, which have the particularity, for most of them, to have black sand--actually volcanic ash. Take an excursion to Mt. Profit Ilias where the famous monastery was built in the 1700s. The view from the top is spectacular.
Another island, Mykonos, is world famous for its beautiful golden sandy beaches and transparent waters. Here’s where you two can steal away to frolic in the azure Aegean sea. But go early in the day; beaches here tend to get crowded in the afternoons.

Katakolon is your gateway to Olympia, dedicated to the father of the gods, Zeus. Olympia is the birth-place of the Olympics. You can visit the ruins and browse the modern Archaeological Museum, a treasure house of Classical and Roman sculptures, including the famous Winged Victory.
My daughter and new son-in-law are cruising to Greece on their honeymoon this summer.
Their excitement is growing as they prepare for their upcoming sojourn. The glory of Greece spotlights the treasures and triumphs of our Western Civilization; they gleam like jewels along the shores of the Aegean. If you are thinking about a honeymooning there, you can not go wrong.
